Default Training for short length triathlons...

I was shooting to do some sprint triathlons this year and honestly I was overlooking the swim... I've been swimming for 30 years after all. Uhhh never in any sort of competitive fashion though. So I've got a first event lined up that is about as short as it gets, 300m before some 750m events. In spite of good cardio, I do 2 laps in a 25m lane and I am huffing-n-puffing.

Granted I've only had three trips to the pool this year, but it was a cold slap of reality. I think my form is pretty good, but my breathing stinks. I am working on a stead exhale and then trying to figure out what works best... breath every three, every two, etc. I also don't think I push myself as hard in the pool as I do in say my running or biking because of the whole breathing thing, water in my mouth, etc. Part of it I think is simply a comfort in the water deal. Every now and then in my few trips this year I hit a zone that feels really nice.

Anyway, I need more time in the water. Looking into a Master's program at a local swimming facility and as I said already, get more time in the water. Sort or a semi-intro for myself and I will be poking around the forum for info.
