Hi swimmers,

I'm new to swimming and its brief, so I'm wondering how can you tell when it's time to get a new one?

I've had mine for 2.5 months and hit the pool 5-6 days a week for 1.5 hours each time. I clean mine using whatever soap they have in the dispenser in the shower and warm water. To get rid of the suds I put it in a ball and squeeze. If I'm not washing it correctly please let me know.

My best advice would be to wash based on the manufacturer's suggestions. Anything else will make a normal suit die quicker. It is time to get a new suit when it gets baggier or you can start to see through it, or when you start to see frays or holes in the seams/suit.

I've paid over $30.00 for two of my daughters suits, both being nylon/spandex and they fade, get discolored and worn out within a month a swimming 3 times a week. And these were both speedo brands!!

I now got her a polyester Dofin Uglies suit that I hope will last darn it! I told her that when she gets on a team I will buy her an expensive cool looking nylon/spandex suit again just for meets and thats it.

I even washed those nylon suits in cold water but to no avail. Yeah the look killer but you can go broke if you have a dedicated swimmer on your hands.

Practice suits = more drag the better.

Meet suits = suits only for the meet (typically a material that will shed/dry off water quicker) and about 2 sizes (at least) smaller than the practice suits.

That seems about right! If you haven't already, try an endurance suit from TYR.

for training, i have a brief and a drag suit to wear over it. i don't rinse the brief, but because i wear the drag suit over it, it doesn't really matter what it looks like. i've used it for more than a year now, with no end in sight.

If you wear it to swim everyday, I think you can use it only in 4 months. You don't need to buy swimwear of Brand name because it is very expensive. Paying much money for swimwear is very wasteful. Even when you buy swimwear of famous brand name, you can't use it in long time. So I advise you to buy normal swimwear to use it everyday. When it can't be used anymore, you can buy another one to replace.
