Default Neck pain causing shoulder pain

I've narrowed down my traveling shoulder pain (sometimes left, sometimes right, depends on the day and how I wake up) to it being a neck problem. I have tried many pillows but I randomly wake up with neck pain/stiffness in one side and it causes that shoulder to be more sensitive to training.

I've gone to physio and am doing strengthening exercises to correct my posture, alignment etc but I don't feel like I am making much progress.

Has anyone had a similar problem?

I get something similar (I think). It becomes a lot worse when I breath too much to the same side in freestyle over and over. Is it like a sharp pain just before the tip of the shoulder, around the colar bone area?
