Default Flash floods

More bad news for open water swimmers on the news. They're saying that there is concern about flash floods in rivers in the UK (can't quite remember where, but maybe Yorkshire was mentioned) after all the rain.

No flash floods around my way that I know of, but if the River Soar goes up again, it will flood into the lake I swim in. Since I'm now doing whole circuits of the lake, I'll swim past the bit where the river is breaking in, and be able to see how that works.

The way the weather's going those living on flood plains will soon be swimming as a means of getting around. My local river (Weaver) is running high but not particularly fast, although it is its winter brown colour.

They shouldn't build on the flood plains in the first place! This wouldn't be such an issue then.

to be fair missy, a lot of the flood plains have only recently become flood plains, some areas which were flood plains - are'nt anymore. some because of better defences & drains etc some because of the way the geography of the land is changing. I have'nt got the time to check, but some of the names i'm hearing on the news are'nt the regular ones.

I know they said it ws going to be a record breaking summer but i honestly thought they meant something else!

Tell you what it came down in buckets here just a while ago.

I havent seen rain like that...actually in living memory.

My arm got drenched in the 2 seconds of lowering my window to pick up my big mac!

Serves you right. Should have slipped into it before sticking your arm out. Common sense really.

Anyone going to Victoria station should also remember to pack their speedos and goggles.

It’s amazing now that the floods are down south it is big big news. When we were getting flooded up north all that the beeb and itv were worried about was how crap we were at tennis. Hull was the forgotten city. And while I am on my soap box, when other countries have natural disasters we all rally round and sit in bath tubs full of baked beans to raise money. When it happens to us, everyone runs for cover and the local council sends its workforce out into the flooded community armed with bottles of bleach!!!!! Oh yes and prince Charlie and a few politicians go around with words of comfort; enough hot air to dry out any flood damage.
