Default Retired swimmers turned Masters

How many swimmers ahve kept it up after they retired in their younger days, and are not swimming in the masters?

I have not joined masters, and at the moment do not intend to. I still keep fit though.

I am still debating whether or not to try and do it again....i am in college and pre-med was a tough curriculum so I was forced to stop swimming. My senior year will be a little more laid back. Any suggestions, I am about 2 years out of the water.

I think there's a time for everything... A college education is an investment for the future while there will always be time to swim (or run or play hockey...). Having said that, I think a good balance is essential and an individual thing (studying/working/training).

I retired competitively when i was 17 because of academic pursuit, and I just started joining masters swim club half a year ago ( now i am 28 ) . I am way far from my best time but I am slowly inching towards my goal

average time 100m LCM freestyle training on 2 minutes when I was 17 : 1:16
average time 100m LCM freestyle training on 2 minutes now : 1:20

best sprint 100m LCM freestlye , no blocks last set when i was 17 : 1:01
best sprint 100m LCM freestlye , no blocks last set now : 1:07

After retiring from competitive stuff at 29 - I know - old.... I started doing masters stuff again around ten years later.

What made me stop I remember well. I was competing in a nationals thing and looked up to see my wife and kids looking down to watch me. As the children were only young, the feeling that I should be watching them do things rather than the other way round seemed to hit me quite hard.

That was it. I stopped.

Now, the kids are mid twenties, I've started again.

Surely the clocks on the poolside must be wrong............ Also 400m used to be a warm up. Now its an achievement. (Only been back to it for the last three weeks, though)

Great story older. I've heard from a lot of people that, even if they're still a very good swimmer, that once they've given up hopes of winning national titles/advancing to international meets, they choose to go to Masters anyways. The atmosphere is a lot more fun, laid back, and you're much more likely to make good friends.

Do masters programs require as much time as college and age group swimming? I find it hard to hard to even get to the gym with my job, but I really miss being part of a team.
